I'm writing to say thank you so much. I've been training for seven years and the whole time I've felt like we were going about it all wrong. It seemed like such a dumb way to teach. But I didn't see anyone who seemed to be doing it differently. I am a mechanical engineer and I wanted to talk about the mechanics of things. I wanted class to be a discussion of physics and not another day of “memorize this move”. I would say to people all the time that I wished someone would teach concepts and not moves. Holy shit are your videos a breath of fresh air. I sit in amazement thinking “Yes, this guy gets it!” I am so grateful and so stoked to keep digging into the videos. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Thanks again!

I could write pages on why you should already be a member of BJJ Concepts and why Rob and his team are the right people to guide you, answer your questions and share with you incredible technique and knowledge but at the end of the day you really only need to know one thing.
BJJ Concepts membership is simply the best value online for taking your Jiu Jitsu to a level you probably did not think possible, no hype, no bs, just actionable, purposeful and usable content….. you could do no better.

I'm a State Champion in wrestling, but you BJJ guys always submitted me in grappling matches. I then started BJJ some time ago (2 stripe white belt), and with the additional help of your videos, I'm now smashing again. I love bjjconcepts!

I've been training BJJ for over ten years now. I did and taught karate for a long time before starting BJJ. In karate we had a right way of doing but no way to actually verifying. Rob has a Unified theory on how things should work and FYJJ system to test each step. You have a concept and a lab where you test if your technique works. Hands down best system I've seen and I've been looking hard. I don't know if Rob is the best teacher in the BJJ world, but he shares his knowledge! For me it's much more helpful to have an instructor who does not hide facts or keep them as a team secret.
One of the best ways to learn is to teach and Rob has a section for instructors, too. It's a rare treat!

I initially ran a traditional Japanese jiu-jitsu school before I made the switch to BJJ. I needed a platform that could support me on my new learning journey and most importantly I was looking for a modern and effective teaching method for my students which adhered to scientific and logical reasoning. Shortly after, I came across Rob's BJJ Formula. I got in touch and after some time subscribed to the new bjjconcepts.net web site.

The site is neatly organised between a fundamentals section (101) as well as the intermediate and more advanced sections (201 & 301). The pedagogy section is a must for gym owners and new coaches. Rory & the whole ITT team are always ready to help with queries. But what really differentiate this site from others is that there is a consistency in the way the materials are presented: the underlying concepts, the control scheme, the kuzushi movements, how they funnel to connected techniques and finally the famous FYJJ drills (their proprietary drilling method to speed up your development).

If you want to explore areas of the sport which are very often left out by schools, I highly recommend Rob's materials and his unique conceptual approach to BJJ.

It's hard to get started with BJJ when there are no schools nearby, only an open mat. It's even harder when you're the shortest, lightest and least experienced (by multiple years) guy on that open mat. But within three years, Rob's and Rory's material has taken me from bruised beginner to where I have prolonged exchanges with brown belts. And in my estimation these are good exchanges with real movement, applying concepts, control and escapes. Not just me in a fetal position or the other guy using the round to catch a breath. (Of course, I still get submitted at the end of each such exchange.)
All of the parts of BJJ Concepts have been helping me on that path. – BJJ 101 is great for the basics. BJJ 201 is great for building my game and countering that of others. The podcast episodes provided context. The instructor material (which I subscribe to sometimes) helps me self-coach. And the Facebook group is there for me when I have questions.
Note to the nerds: The structure of the site makes it easy to use spaced repetition software for learning techniques. You can put the name of the technique or a trigger situation on the front of the card. On the back you can put the video URL and take notes. Then you can do the repetitions at home using a grappling dummy or willing housemate.

The package that Rob and Rory have put together at https://bjjconcepts.net is second to none. While there are many other online instructional resources available today the unique modular system used at bjjconcepts makes it stand out from the rest. Site navigation is simple and intuitive and is constantly being updated with new information. The content is not heavily orientated towards attribute based techniques so anyone from competitor to social practitioner will gain something from the site. If you are having a migraine on the mat with a technique, or you need a solution to a specific problem, then the answer is right there at your fingertips. So if you want to make your BJJ journey both enjoyable and educational while simultaneously accelerating your learning to the next level then you need to get yourself an account.

I was at Rob's academy ITT, learning jiu jitsu as a complete beginner, for a mere seven months.

Due, mainly, to Covid - and the fact that I live on the opposite side of the planet - it has been nearly two years since I was able to last practice at his gym.

After I moved away, I found new gyms to practice at, and have pretty much lived for jiu jitsu ever since. While there are plenty of gyms in my neck of the woods, the teaching methods often lack cohesion, and practices more often than not consist of having a number of random skills thrown at practitioners, which are then followed up by free sparring.

I am sometimes amazed that, even as my repertoire of techniques has grown in the past two years, what has stayed with, and guided, me ever since more than anything else, are the fundamentals I learned at Rob's place.

Whenever I need a reminder of these basic principles, need to delve deeper into any techniques, or - feeling complacent in my practice - want to learn something new, it's always Rob's online academy I consult.

Rob's breaking down of the fundamentals for jiu jitsu have given me a practical framework for understanding this martial art, which become more and more applicable as I become a (relatively speaking) more skillful practitioner.

If you want an in depth and practical knowledge of the art of jiu jitsu, along with principles to guide you every step of the way, you're in luck. Rob's got it all!

I have been training in BJJ for quite a long time now and had resigned myself to being a permanent blue belt. When rolling with higher grades I was basically just trying to survive. When rolling with White Belts, I sometimes did okay but when faced with someone who had to win at all costs, I got overwhelmed. I assumed I just wasn't very good at BJJ as everybody else seems to do okay. All that changed when I discovered Professor Biernacki's website. I found out that the reason I am not very good at BJJ is because I don't understand it. Professor Biernacki has laid out everything I need to know in exactly the right way for me to learn it. The number of lights that have come on in my head since I started going through the Professor's content is blinding. Professor Biernacki's site is a fantastic resource for building your basic understanding of BJJ, for improving and learning new things and for revising what you already know at any time. I cannot recommend Professor Biernacki's online training highly enough.
